In this 1976 interview, Virgil Rufus Vann (1895–1983) and his wife Carrie May (Millhouse) Vann (1900-1982) discuss their early-1900s childhoods in the Pinehill Community outside Bristow, Oklahoma, including the first teachers at the school, classmates, their courtship, community social events such as literaries, the loss of the first Pinehill school by fire, and Virgil’s boyish antics such as playing “pitch,” stealing watermelons, and the theft of a rooster.
